David B. Wilkins on Term Non-Lawyers

David Lat discussed an ABA petition to stop using the term “non-lawyer” in his “Exclusive Jurisdiction” column at Bloomberg Law. David B. Wilkins, CLP faculty director, told Lat “it’s high time to stop using ‘nonlawyer.'”
Professor Wilkins said: “I’ve been saying this for years…’No one likes it; it sounds like ‘non-humans.’ And we need the expertise of people like data scientists, business development and marketing professionals—and, of course, our clients, regulators, and policymakers—more than ever, in the age of ESG and ChatGPT.”
