On April 3, the HLS Center on the Legal Profession hosted the conference, “Inequality, Access to Justice, and the Rule of Law,” where we explored the systemic and reinforcing relationship between societal inequality and access to justice. The event featured a number of important voices from academia, government, and practice, including:

  • Arne Duncan, Managing Director, Chicago CRED; Former U.S. Secretary of Education
  • Jason Furman, Aetna Professor of the Practice of Economic Policy, Harvard Kennedy School
  • Ben Jackson, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, Upsolve
  • Martha Minow, 300th Anniversary University Professor, Harvard University
  • Verna Williams, CEO, Equal Justice Works
  • David B. Wilkins, Faculty Director, HLS Center on the Legal Profession

The conference culminated in a dinner honoring John G. Levi, chair of the board of the Legal Services Corporation, with the CLP Award for Professional Excellence. On the following day, CLP also hosted an invite-only stakeholder workshop to explore building actionable solutions to the access to justice crisis.
