John Coates, John F. Cogan, Jr. Professor of Law and Economics at Harvard Law School and CLP affiliate, gave an interview to Law360 recently about his belief that “regulators [should] be more forthright in debunking legal myths that he argues contributed to the boom in special purpose acquisition companies,” the article notes. The interview builds off of a recently published paper, “SPAC Law and Myths,” in which Coates argues that, “in addition to myths about [SPAC] financial attributes, which others have debunked—several myths about SPAC law circulated widely and persistently.”

Coates was formerly the general counsel of the SEC, as well as acting director of corporation finance.
