Hariolf Wenzler

Dr. Hariolf Wenzler has spent more than two decades researching law firm strategy and management, with a particular focus on technology, innovation, and the evolving maturity of professional service firms. As CEO of the tech law firm YPOG, responsibilities include overseeing the firm’s management and leading the development and launch of new digital business models. He is also founder and non-executive director of the Bucerius Law School Center on the Legal Profession in Hamburg, Germany.

His current research focuses on the next stage of professionalisation in law firms, particularly the use of the MSO model for the provision of business services. Previous research has explored the professionalisation of management, the role of innovation and technology in growth and business development, and the impact of AI on law firms’ business models.

Before joining YPOG, Hariolf led business development at the international law firm Baker McKenzie, most recently for the EMEA region in London and previously for Germany and Austria in Frankfurt. During this time, he initiated ReInvent.Law, the first legal innovation hub in continental Europe.

He has published and contributed to numerous articles, is a frequent conference speaker, and regularly appears on podcasts focused on law and education. He advises law firms on strategy, management, and the use of technology and innovation, providing practical insights into the challenges facing leaders of professional service firms.

Hariolf studied Economics (Ph.D.) and Political Science (M.A.) at the University of Freiburg. After positions with Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and the European Commission in Brussels, he completed a doctorate in Economics. From 2006 to 2016, he served as CEO of Bucerius Law School. During this period, the Bucerius Center on the Legal Profession and the European Legal Technology Association (ELTA) were established.
