Almost 20 years ago, CLP conducted a first-of-its-kind survey of the black alumni of Harvard Law School. The survey formed the basis of a major report on the state of black lawyers. In order to understand changes that have occurred over the past 20 years, the Center is currently revisiting and expanding this important research project. Based on a new survey of all living black HLS graduates as well as related national research initiatives in which the Center is also engaged, we are in the final stages of writing a new report on the state of black lawyers. It is this research that will form the theme of this year’s colloquium: A History of Black Lawyers: Research Across the Decades.

This year’s annual colloquium will be hosted on June 5th in Washington, D.C.  The colloquium is set for 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m with remarks from CLP Faculty Director David B. Wilkins as well as a panel discussion of the data and themes of the report and a light reception to follow. Names of all guests and proper identification will be required for building entry.
