The New India Foundation shortlisted CLP affiliate Swethaa S. Ballakrishnen’s book, Accidental Feminism: Gender Parity and Selective Mobility among India’s Professional Elite (Princeton University Press, 2021) for the Kamaladevi Chataopadhyay NIF Book Prize for 2022. The prize is awarded to “the best non-fiction book on modern / contemporary India published in the previous year.” It is named to “honour the legacy of Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay: great patriot and institution-builder who contributed significantly to the Indian freedom struggle, the women’s movement, theatre resurgence, refugee rehabilitation and the renewal of handicrafts.”
